The Winchester Model 1912 (Model 12) in Trench Gun configuration was the US military's preferred combat shotgun from WWI through Korea and Vietnam. The Model 12 was an improvement on the Model 1897, using a hammerless design with the barrel and magazine contained within the receiver. The Trench Gun variant added a perforated steel heat shield and a bayonet lug for the M1917 bayonet. Winchester Model 12 Trench Guns are among the most historically significant American combat shotguns.
