The FAMAS F1 is the bullpup assault rifle that served as the standard service weapon of the French Armed Forces from 1978 until replacement by the HK416 A5 in 2017. Chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO, it features a distinctive straight-line bullpup layout with a distinctive carry handle bisecting the receiver. The delayed-blowback operating system is unique among production assault rifles. The F1 version used French-standard magazines incompatible with standard NATO STANAG magazines.
