History: A Peabody rifle cartridge for the Peabody-Martini falling-block action, chambered for 1,000-yard target competition in the 1870s-1880s. Fires a 480-grain bullet propelled by 90 grains of black powder. Used at long-range target matches where .44 caliber was popular before small-bore precision took over.
