Introduced by Remington in 1966 for the compact Model 600 and 660 bolt-action carbines, this was the first commercially produced belted magnum designed around a short action — a concept that wouldn't see mainstream adoption until the WSM and RSAUM cartridges arrived 35 years later. Despite delivering respectable 6.5mm performance, the Model 600's 18.5-inch barrel couldn't develop full velocity, and Remington never chambered it in a full-length rifle. SAAMI-standardized but discontinued; brass is still available from Remington and Nosler.
