Overview

Arcadia Machine & Tool (AMT) was an American firearms manufacturer founded in 1977 in Irwindale, California. Known for producing all-stainless steel pistols at a time when stainless was uncommon in production handguns. The AMT Hardballer was a long-slide .45 ACP 1911 in stainless steel — made famous by Arnold Schwarzenegger's character in The Terminator (1984). The Backup series offered compact .380 and .45 ACP pocket pistols in stainless. The Automag II and III offered .22 Magnum and .30 Carbine semi-auto pistols. AMT went through several name changes and ownership transitions before finally closing.
