Austrian firearms manufacturer founded by Gaston Glock in 1963, initially producing curtain rods and field knives. The G17 polymer-frame pistol was developed in 1982 and adopted by the Austrian military that year; civilian US sales began 1988. Glock's trigger-safety system and polymer construction redefined the duty pistol market. Now the dominant handgun in US law enforcement — over 65% of agencies carry a Glock.
