Maverick Arms is a subsidiary of O.F. Mossberg & Sons, established in 1991 to produce budget-priced shotguns manufactured in Eagle Pass, Texas. The Maverick 88 is a simplified, less-expensive version of the Mossberg 500 — sharing the same barrel, choke, and basic action but with a cross-bolt safety instead of the Mossberg's tang safety. The Maverick 88 has become one of the best-selling budget home defense shotguns in the United States, offering solid Mossberg reliability at a significantly lower price point.

Also recorded as Maverick.
