Para Ordnance was a Canadian firearms manufacturer founded in 1985 in Toronto, Ontario, originally making paintball equipment before pivoting to firearms. The company's landmark achievement was the P14-45 — the first commercially successful double-stack .45 ACP 1911, holding 14 rounds versus the standard 7. This innovation fundamentally expanded what the 1911 platform could do and spawned a generation of imitators. Para also developed the LDA (Light Double Action) trigger, offering a DAO option on the 1911 platform. Para Ordnance relocated manufacturing to the US after import restrictions and was acquired by Remington Arms / Freedom Group in 2012. The brand was subsequently discontinued.
