History: Adopted by the German Army in 1871 for the Mauser Model 1871 bolt-action rifle, the 11.15x60mmR was Germany's first metallic cartridge service rifle round. It was later replaced by the 11.15x60mmR tubular magazine version, then superseded by the 7.92x57mm Mauser in 1888.
