History

Developed in 1876 for the Winchester Centennial rifle (Model 1876), Winchester's answer to demands for a large-bore repeating rifle. It was one of Theodore Roosevelt's preferred cartridges during his ranching days. The Northwest Mounted Police adopted the Model 1876 in .45-75. Factory ammunition was discontinued in the early 20th century; reproduction cartridges are available from specialty suppliers for Uberti and Chiappa replicas.
