Overview

Star Bonifacio Echeverria, S.A. was a Spanish firearms manufacturer founded in 1905 in Eibar, Basque Country. Star produced a long series of semi-automatic pistols modeled closely on the Colt 1911 but with their own improvements — external extractors, loaded chamber indicators, and simplified field-stripping. The Star Model B in 9mm Parabellum became the standard Spanish military pistol from the 1940s through the 1990s. The Star Model 30M and 28 were modern DA/SA service pistols. The compact Star BM in 9mm was widely used by Spanish police and sold well in the US market. Star closed in 1997 amid the same economic pressures that shuttered Astra.
