Designed by Paul Mauser in 1892 and adopted by Spain in 1893. Proved devastatingly effective in Spanish-American War, leading US to adopt .30-06. Famous as the cartridge used by W.D.M. Bell to take over 1,000 elephants with precise shot placement. Marketed as .275 Rigby in Britain. Still highly regarded for hunting.
