History: Introduced in 1977 by Winchester for the Wildey semi-automatic pistol, a large gas-operated pistol designed by James Wildey. The cartridge offered genuine magnum performance from a semi-automatic platform. The Wildey pistol gained cult recognition through Charles Bronson's 1985 film 'Death Wish 3' despite limited commercial sales. Winchester discontinued factory ammunition in the 1990s.
